Like Wheat by Carly Ogletree

Luke 22:31-32

And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

From the moment you open your eyes in the morning, your enemy, which is Satan, is after you. He is looking for an entry-point to ruin your day and destroy your life. But Satan has no real power or authority, that’s why he still has to ask for God’s permission to even come close to you like he did with Job and also Simon (who is Peter). The only reason God allows it is because He knows what you’re made of. He knows that you are more than a conqueror in Him and you’re able to stand against the attacks of the enemy.

God wants you to know that you’re an important grain. The only reason Satan messes with you is because you have a value. You have power and purpose in Christ Jesus and Satan wants to mess that up for you. He doesn’t want you to utilize your full potential and accomplish all the tasks God has prepared for you on earth. Google Dictionary says the word ‘sift’ means to examine thoroughly so as to isolate that which is most important or useful. Satan wants to isolate you so you’re used for his kingdom instead of God’s. That’s why he keeps you away from your church, your Bible, your prayer time, your friends and family that hold you spiritually accountable. He wants you to himself so he can use you by putting doubt and lies into your mind. He wants to tell you that you’re useless and that God will never take you back. But the truth is God loves you and will always reconcile you to Himself!

Just like with Jesus and Peter, Jesus KNEW that Peter was going to deny Him three times. That’s why He interceded for Him through prayer. He prayed that when Peter returned to Him, meaning repented, that he would serve in His kingdom again. Wow! How awesome is that? God will always take you back because He knows just how valuable you are. That’s why He died on the cross for you. He prayed for you multiply times before you ever existed but even more so He interceded on the cross for you because He knew that you would turn away. But when you returned back to Him through repentance, He knew how powerful you would be for His Kingdom. He knew how powerful your testimony would be to others and how the life you live for Jesus would demonstrate God’s power and love on the earth.

No matter what it is that’s caused you to turn away, know this: it’s not you, it’s your enemy. God sees you as valuable and not as a sinner, if you’re in Christ Jesus. The enemy attacks us all. We all are guilty of turning our backs on God but God knows that we will turn back to Him. And when we do, we’re not any less valuable than when we started. Our worth is in Jesus and the Lord says you are still worth using. Return to Him and do what God has set out for you to do, in Jesus Name.
