‭‭Matthew‬ ‭3:8‬

“Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.”

This morning, I woke up saying, “Thank God He is perfect because I’m not.” I couldn’t imagine believing in myself, or being my own god, because I get it wrong all the time. I say things I shouldn’t say, I believe things I shouldn’t believe, I do things I know I shouldn’t do, but through it all God is still perfect and just. His perfection is what changes our hearts. The fact is, we know we’re messed up on our own but the Greater One in you will cause you to change and keep changing.

Did you know there hasn’t been a single day on earth where you were exactly the same? It’s physically, mentally, and spiritually impossible. Everyday your body is growing, cells are dying and being reproduced at the same time, and your thoughts are changing. Spiritually you may go from the spirit of joy to a spirit of sadness. There’s never a dull moment on earth. Your being was designed to change and keep changing.

Repentance is a change of heart; it’s the turning away from things that lead you away from God and turning to Him and His ways instead. You turn from your destructive choices to His constructive ones and in that fruit will bear in your life. When you turn from anger, the fruit of peace will bear. When you turn from lust, the fruit of love will bear. When you turn from pride, the fruit of humility will bear.

You were designed to change and be changed by the Holy Spirit. The Lord says, “Keep changing.” His concern is not sin in itself, His concern is that you be changed. His concern for you and your life is that you don’t remain the same way He found you. His concern is that you’re a spitting image of Christ on this earth. If God looks at us this way, then we need to look at ourselves in this way.

The Holy Spirit convicts us when we sin and that can cause us to feel bad at times. The Bible says that godly sorrow leads to repentance (2 Cor. 7:10). After you’ve done wrong, allow yourself to grieve and feel what the Holy Spirit feels in hopes that you would turn to Him for comfort. You might not even understand why you did wrong at times, sometimes you do things that you don’t want to do. God knows that. He’s not looking for you to beat yourself up about it, He’s looking for you to change. Turn your heart over to Him and keep turning. Your life on earth is one of repentance and transformation.
