Malachi 3:10

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and TRY Me now in this,” says the Lord if hosts, “If I will not open for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.”

Matthew 6:33

But seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you

Congratulations! You’ve made it half way through the year. It might not have started the way you wanted it to but it can certainly end the way it needs to! God’s going to do great things for you before this year is up, I believe it in my spirit. This is the year of growth, transition, and harvest. But FIRST we must acknowledge God in everything. In the beginning of this year you might have started out with a goal in mind. Maybe you wanted to lose weight, maybe you wanted to end a toxic relationship, maybe you wanted to become more socially involved or join a church group. Whatever your goal was somewhere along the line it got tossed to the wayside. There was a good seed in your life but it wasn’t planted deeply and it ended up withering away. But it’s not too late to get back on track! Even if today wasn’t the first of the month, every day is the first day for something new!

Now what I don’t want you to do is get pumped like the last time and become entangled again with things that caused you to go off course. I want you to receive the harvest of the seeds that you’ve planted. I want you to experience God completely and not partially. I don’t want you to believe that God is kind of good, I want you to experience how freaking amazing He is and how much He loves you. So before you start getting excited and listing all of the things you want to see God change in your life, seek Him in those areas. For example, if you want to lose weight, ask the Lord, “Lord, what should be my goal this time around? What should I add/subtract from my diet?” God will give you the wisdom for the areas you ask of Him.

If you want to see a financial change, seek Him first. Now some believe that tithing is for the Old Testament and that’s partially true. Tithing represented the first tenth of the harvest that people would give to the Lord in order that the storehouse (which would’ve been like a church) would be full to provide whatever needs needed to be met. In the Old Testament, they were required to give a tenth , whereas, in the New Testament we’re not. We’re actually required to give more! We’re required to give our bodies as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). What that means is God doesn’t just want your measly tenth, He wants all of you! He’s not looking for money, He’s a rich God. He’s looking for you to give everything that has your heart attached to it in exchange for His heart. So, if you’re wanting more out of your finances, that means that area has a part of your heart that God wants. So seek Him first. Ask Him, “Lord, where should I sow my seed today? How should I give?” It may be in tithing, it may be helping someone else buy their groceries, it may even be helping that homeless person that you assume is on drugs. Regardless, you want to include the Lord FIRST in every part of your life.

We don’t want to just give God anything because He gave us everything by giving His Son, Jesus Christ; His FIRST and ONLY Son. God has always given His first, it’s time for us to do the same. He isn’t a genie, He is our Father and Friend. He has a relationship with us and we get out what we put in. So, it’s the first of July, what do you want to see out of your life? Do you want to know God more? Put it in more time with Him through His word, prayer, and worship and you’ll know Him more. Do you want to be healthier? Ask the Lord what lifestyle changes you need to make. Do you want an increase in your finances? Ask the Lord where you should invest your finances so that He can return more to you. Seek Him FIRST in all areas of your life and all of those areas will be addressed, in Jesus’ Name.
