“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”
You ever tried building your own house?
I’ve been watching a house down the street from me be built in a matter of two months! They plotted the land, cleared it out, laid the foundation, built it up, and a lot more that I CANT SEE went into building this beautiful home.
If a builder or an architect can see the product of a beautiful home on a plot of rubbish, how much more can God envision for you?
Your thoughts are not His thoughts and your ways are not
His way. He thinks so highly of us and wants to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we can think of. But we want to build – we want to select our land, we want to clear it out, we want to lay the foundation, we want to build it up, and then, take a step back and say “look what I did.”
The flesh DOESNT want God. It doesn’t desire a savior, a builder, a counselor, NOTHING. In the flesh, we want to do what we want to do and we want God to be okay with that. But in our spirits, which is made alive in Christ, we desire God. We desire His plans, His thoughts, and His blessings.
So, have you ever tried building your own house? I know that I have and it never works out. Whether it be school, relationships, career choices, or moving, if I try and do it myself, it won’t work. My flesh is VERY type-A, hard-headed, and bratty. I love planning and I love when things go my way. But God always reminds me, “Only one of us is going to win this battle” and “You’re only hurting yourself” when it comes to doing things my way.
My encouragement is this: don’t be a brat. Daddy knows best. Though it doesn’t look like it, He’s at work and your life is under construction. Let Him build and rest.
